"Fly High" is the third CD recorded by Take Four Band, following "Time for
Freedom" (1994), and "Flower of Evil" (1996).
The band formation has changed since the first two albums; now the group
includes:
Marco Biniero (Lead Guitar), taking the place of Giuseppe Tramentozzi, and
Massimiliano Pilla (Vocals), replacing Paolo Persichetti. The band is completed
by G. Maria Tiboni (Guitar), Roberto Ragno (Drums), and Carlo Parascandolo
(Electric Bass).
The tracks on "Fly High" are full of energy, where the powerful rhythms sustain
free-wheeling guitars, alternating with more somber moments, and rarefied,
intense atmospheres. Also present are "FM style" tracks, easier on less trained
ears.
Carlo Giardina, who has worked with Pino Daniele, Tullio De Piscopo and other
Italian artists, collaborated on the production of "Fly High" as studio
assistant, as well as on keyboard on some tracks.
The CD opens with the sweeping and subtle "Coffee Grinder", and with the
engaging rhythm of "Bloody Road". These two tracks clearly reveal the
blues-tinged hard rock most favored by Take Four Band. Next on the CD are the
powerful and haunting melody of "Staring at the Coals", and the heavy metal
riff of the title track, "Fly High". Aslo included are softer tunes, such as
"My Dreams", "Children", and "Twisted Morning"; Sabbath-like ones like "The
Hammer Stroke", or Southern-rock inspired, like "Keep me Away from my
Relatives".
The CD is completed by "A Spider in the Garden, Part 2", a bonus track that
is a follow-up to the preceeding CD, "Flower of Evil". What began as a studio
warm-up by keyboard played Carlo Giardina and drummer Roberto Ragno (Ragno
means Spider in Italian, hence the song title), became a fun and compelling
track in its own right.
All in all, on "Fly High" there is something for everyone. Rock lovers, let's
hear from you!
